Hi everybody! I’ve gotten the question more than once so I just want to clarify the situation.
- If you missed preregistration, DON’T WORRY! We were doing it to be able to get some people in the doors faster. Just show up in costume or with student ID and you will still get in for $15.
- You do not have to be a member of our club or any club to get in! We want everybody to come! We have some great events planned and they will be much more fun with a big crowd!
- Tell your friends! We’ve got lots of pizza and candy and soda at no charge while it lasts so show up early enough in the night to grab yourself some dinner!
- Finally, I want to mention something important since we are expecting a big crowd. Big crowds = big chance for problems. We have 4 security officers and lots of building staff around. Please act responsibly. There is NO ALCOHOL at this event. If you show up intoxicated you will be asked to leave (without refund)! And please leave the real swords at home. Please be smart and act responsibly and we’ll all have fun! =)

You can register at the Borders Express in the mall for $15, or if you buy it with a manga, $10! (C’mon, you were gonna buy one, anyway, right?)
You are also able to register through your OtakuNet account or at meetings. Just log in to your otakuNet account, or show up to a meeting. Paypal is now accepted!
Register now! It means you get in faster!!
PLEASE NOTE: This year we will not be accepting any child pre-registrations unless you really want to pay full price and fill it all out at Borders. Children under 10(ish) will be half-off and very young children (babies) will be free entry. Child registration tickets will be on sale at the Shadows event and will only ask for name, age, sex, and name or last 4 numbers of the confirmation code of accompanying adult. Children under 10 will not be allowed entry without an accompanying registered adult.
Remember to please bring photo id to get your badge at Shadows! (We’re gonna have badges this year!!! w00t!)
Also, we will be attempting to link registrations with user accounts so if you have registered via paper and your account shows that you haven’t registered yet, please contact us.

Any new files I make for people to use will go in that folder. I’m posting the AIs this year so people can use the characters and make new files if they want to help us out. Or steal them. Please don’t steal them, all images are owned by the club. =)

Trivia event
Name the girls that hit on Tenchi. Does Excel have a last name? What’s Osaka’s real name? What’s written on the side of Takumi’s car? Who was Chi’s sister? You know some answers? Great! Show your stuff.
Karaoke event
With our special guests, the Karaoke Club of UNR. Come sing out your heart, and our ears.
Dance Dance Revolution
Will be set up in the game room. Free-play all night. No official contest planned at this time.
Scavenger Hunt Event
Rules will be disclosed at the event (but it’s not too different from the scavenger hunts you played as a kid). There will be a special “Scavanger” piece of the event where you have to figure out who or what a “Scavanger” is in honor of Nathan’s typo. First person to figure it out gets a special “Scavanger” prize!
Costume Contest
Cosplay or Halloween costume, we want to see your best! Sign up in person at Shadows. Categories to be determined. Please remember this is a family event when you dress for the evening.
Rock Band Contest
This is a performance contest. Get your friends together and give us a show! Game will be set to “no fail” mode, so give it your best show! Our judges will be basing the winners primarily on audience participation and band cohesion. Not being in constant fail will help, but don’t miss the opportunity to show off your best flashy moves because you were worried about missing the notes. Although we will want to have a fully unlocked game, we don’t promise yet that we’ll have one.
Monologue Contest
This is a performance contest. You will get up on stage in front of an audience and perform a monologue. Time to show your best evil monologue, silly monologue, crazy monologue, etc. Please keep it family friendly, PG to PG-13. It can be as short as you like, but please keep the time within reason, other people want to talk too. We may modify this rule to include a time limit. You may have an accompanist, but they can’t speak. Bongo drum players or mimes are OK.
You must sign up for this contest in person at Shadows by no later than 30 minutes before the event. If we introduce you and you don’t come up your spot is forfeit. You will be moved to the end of the contest and might not perform if we run out of time. If you sign up and are present when we introduce you, you will be able to perform even if we run over the time slot. Spots are limited. When you sign up you must give us a name to introduce you with and the title of your monologue and an approximate length in minutes.
Art Contest
This is a pre-submit contest. Submit a flattened *.jpg or *.png to otakuunr@gmail.com with the subject “Art Contest Entry.” In the body you can include the title, category, your name, and any other information you would like us to know.
It has to be your own original art. It can be a single full-page artistic image or a comic panel style (dialog ok!), or however you want to lay it out. Can be hand drawn, Photoshop, Illustrator, 3D image, etc. Must be a static image. You can submit up to 3 images in different categories. Categories are “Mad Science,” “This is Otakudom,” “Chibi, Chibi, Who’s got the Chibi?,” “Well, It Looks Cool,” and “Wait… What??” Interpret those titles as you see fit. If it doesn’t seem to fit into any of those categories, let us know, we may add another category title. Suggest your own. If a category only gets one/two entries we will eliminate the category but not the art. You must tell us what category you are submitting to, but we reserve the right to re-categorize it as we see fit.
These rules are subject to change at any time. Submission deadline is October 2, 5pm.
AMV contest
This is a pre-submit contest. Categories to be determined by the entries we receive. Submission deadline is October 2, 5pm. You may submit your AMV via FTP or in person via cd or usb drive.
Please submit your AMV via FTP, ftp.otakuunr.com with a username of amvsubmit@underwearadventures.com (er, don’t ask) and a password of ihasamv. Please create a folder with your name in the format of “Last, First” or “Last, First, Studio Name.” If multiple people are in the studio, please only use one person’s name. You may place all three video submissions in that folder. Please upload a text file with your videos that has contact information, anime title, AMV title, music artist and title, and any other info you would like us to know (this is the place to tell us who all is in your studio if you want to). Please be aware that the FTP quota is 900mb. Contact me if this is a problem.
Also, we will want to add our own standard video bumper but we may not have time. If you can, please submit your videos with whatever bumper you have included (if any), and with it edited out. We will edit it out if we need to but you may not like our decision on where to cut in. We will use your uncut video if we are unable to create our own in time (this is our first time doing and AMV contest so please cut us some slack, kthnxbai).
- Although it should be needless to say, it isn’t: this MUST be your original work.
- Because of our short deadline, we will not have an age restriction on this year’s contest. Your AMV can be as old as you are, as long as it’s yours.
- You may submit up to 3 videos.
- Submitting your AMV to this contest grants us the permission to show it at this and every following Shadows or AMS event, but it does not guarantee that we will.
- Please be aware than not all of your submissions, if any, may make it into the contest. Although it is incredibly likely that every submission will get its chance, we may have to trim for time and or quality and one or all of your videos may not make the cut.
- Your AMV may not contain either official subtitles or fansub subtitles. Subtitles added by you are OK.
- Your AMV may not contain any American dubbing. Original Japanese OK, and any dubbing added by you OK.
- Excessive sexual and/or violent content is not allowed. We like it as much as the next otaku, but this is a family event.
- We will accept submissions from anyone. Ballot counters will be chosen from staff that have no submissions.
**Please contact us if you would like to help organize this event, we need an editor who has the time to slice the AMVs together and add intro screens for each.
Super Smash Bros Brawl Contest
Do you have that favorite character with which you PWN all. Is it Mario, Samus, Zelda, or perhaps Kirby? Choose your warrior wisely as you fight for first place. This tournament-style battle will show who truly pwns all, and who gets cool prizes. Standard SSB rules will be in effect and are subject to modification at any time before the tournament. Also, you may bring your own controller, but you are responsible for it. Controllers will be provided.

So we have to do our SEAB form and figure out our budget for our event. Planning goes forth like always and hopefully the Shadows 2009 page will be up so we can start posting volunteer info and contest and get people signed up.

We have received around $500.00 worth of anime and manga related merchandise to help pay for shadows and to be sold at shadows. Also it’s all thanks to one person. Thank you. ^_~*
Also we have a tentative events schedule planned out namely: A Rock Band contest, mad scientist monologue contest, Smash Brothers contest, DDR contest, Art / AMV / Themed video contests, karaoke, cosplay / video game cos. / costume contests, and a lot more.
