Hey everyone,
Just to let you know summer meetings exist! YAY!
They’re being held on friday nights (around 7pm) in the Ansari Business Bldg. room 201 on the UNR campus. We want to see you there and would love you to bring a friend, and some anime.
Also, a lot of progress on the planning of this years Shadows has been made. So, come to a meeting or visit the forums to help us make it the best shadows ever and find out whats happening ahead of time.

Ok, so it’s not exactly anime news, but Futurama has a good following within our ranks. So, for those of you who care (like me!):

Man arrested for... MANGA?! · 36 days ago
So they say he has obscene manga and he’s facing 15 years in PRISON for having a manga collection any of us would kill for (now that’s something to go to prison for). He is a collector and owns over 1200 titles of all kinds. He ordered some hentai-type manga from japan and the customs guy decides that it’s obscene and calls the Feds. Eh….what? Supposedly there were a few images in these books that looked like child porn, and also there were some bestiality images. What gets me is that he pled guilty to it. I’m ready to cry or scream, or both. Lines on paper is what lands him in jail. This is a line that should not have been crossed. My faith in the first amendment is incredibly shaken. How could a BOOK FILLED WITH IMAGES count as obscenity by the law? It’s ART! It has artistic value, as disgusting as some people might think that it is.

Edited to clarify a point: We do not condone or promote pedophilia. The point of this post is not to argue for or against pedophilia. We, as a group, tend to stay away from moral issues with a resounding: “none of our business.” The point of this post is that this case sets a disturbing precedence that could affect any of us and our manga/comics/magazines/dvds/books/novels/etc. which are, likely, a lot more tame.

Hi, guys, here is a copy of Thomas’s e-mail with details about our summer meetings.
Hello everyone:
This is your club treasurer, Thomas. Our meetings will now be switching from Saturdays at 2-5 p.m. to Fridays from 6-11 p.m., maybe Midnight, depending how tired we are. The meetings will now be in AB (Ansari Business) Room 201. After 6:30 p.m., the robotic arm near the Student Services building should be up, and you can park behind Mack Social Sciences building, which is next to the Business building.
